Have you ever searched for Quacadometis in any search engine?
Your answer is no, I assume, and nobody else has searched for Quacadometis either. For this very reason it is reasonably easy to get on the first page of search results, even top position is possible.
You can search for what you know only, if you´ve never heard of Quacadometis you won´t search for it. This emphasizes the argument for directory against search engine.
Visitors arrive at the directory via popular category pages like Hypnotherapy, Naturopathy, Yoga, etc. Then they look around and encounter therapies that they have never heard of and subsequently never searched for. If Quacodometis were a therapy it would be discovered by the visitor.
You may validate this argument by testing yourself. How did you get to infoholix.net and have you found any new therapy?
So you´ve done a SEO course and you are tackling the task of getting your site on the front page of search engines - welcome to the club of the hundred thousand competing for the same keywords.
You´ve got your listing in a category page on infoholix.net. Your description is short, no name, no location, all you want is a backlink only. That´s fine, your mind is switched to SEO and seo says get one way link.
The latest algorithms may add up PR of reciprocated links to achieve better search results provided they have matching keywords and disregard one way links as these are always under suspicion of being paid for or manipulated in one way or another. So you have scored an own goal by not linking back or not installing iHN.
Your second own goal is your description that does not encourage visitors to click on the www button. Good descriptions get all the visitors. I´ve evaluated our stats for 2010:
Top ten positions receive an average of 400 visitors, the standard deviation is 80% which I attribute to the quality of the description.
Amazingly positions 11 to 40 get 300 visitors and position 41 to 90 still get 200. The 100 visitor mark applies to positions 91 to 160. You can check your own referrals from infoholix.net in your cpanel under awstats. Add them up month for month and attribute a value to every visitor and you know what your listing is worth.
Alternatively email me and I´ll be glad to send you your clickstats.
This brings me to the subject of seo techniques, ppc (pay per click), website and/or blog. I´ve set up a blog at infoholix.net/blog to discuss these issues with experts and therapists. You get to the blog via the www button below. |
